More?

More is better! Or is it?

Do we always want more? Do we always need more? Does most everyone want more? Why?

When is enough; enough?

What happens if we are satisfied with what we have? Do we still want more, or would that be an oxymoron? What keeps people from being satisfied or at least happy with what they have? “Is the grass always greener on the other side of the fence?”

“Our economy is based upon people wanting more; their happiness on wanting less.” – Frank A. Clark

Does this have to do with mindfulness? Is being comfortable with what we have, an indication of being in the present moment? Does the constant drive to have more indicate focus on the past or the future?

Is there a difference between wanting to do more or have more in the pursuit of a goal and wanting more to have more?

Do you want more? Of what do you want more? Are you satisfied with what you have? Why do you want more? What is your plan to get more? How much more do you need? How much more do you want?

  1. Funny enough, I awoke this morning with a deep sense that I’ve allowed myself to take on too much of our world’s milieu; that just because everyone else chases more because they feel like they absolutely have to have more doesn’t mean I have to chase more. Where I am, what I am, who I am, and what I have at this moment are enough IN this moment. The worry about not having enough tomorrow if I don’t take a particular action today is based only on a fallacious idea that I somehow control my life. Freedom comes for me in complete surrender to that which is laid before me in this moment. In the words of Jesus, “Tomorrow will take care of itself.”

  2. Great perspective. I get it. A lot of us would be better off if we quit trying to control the universe. It will be fine on it’s own.
