What is a legacy? What will be your legacy? How do you know?

Does a legacy revolve around the material goods and/or the money you leave behind? Is your legacy about what remans when you pass away? Is it about the contributions you made from the life that you lived? Is it about the affect you had on people with whom you interacted?
Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you. —Shannon Alder
Who decides your legacy? Is it you, by what you do now? Do others decide, after you have gone? Is there a little of both involved? Are you leaving the legacy by which you want to be remembered? Are you living the life you think? What will people remember about you? Will they remember what you valued? Will they know what you valued? Will they remember how you made them feel?

What do you want your legacy to be? For what will you be remembered? What would you want people to remember about you? Is it safe to say that it will not be the number of hours you spent at the office?
