Meditation?

What are your thoughts on meditation? What is the first thing you visualize when you think of meditation? Is it a group of monks chanting while sitting cross-legged on the side of a mountain? Is it someone sitting alone, in a trance like state, fixated on controlling their thoughts?

Do you meditate? Why do you meditate? Why do you not meditate?

What is meditation? Is meditation more than just the act of meditating?

“Meditation could be said to be the Art of Simplicity: simply sitting, simply breathing and simply being.”–Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

Is meditation about controlling our thoughts? Is it about the absence of thought? Is it about accepting our thoughts? Is it about ignoring our thoughts?

What are the benefits of meditation? Are there benefits from an individual meditation session? What are the long term benefits from practicing meditation? Are these benefits of a psychological nature? Could there be physical or emotional growth? Can there be physiological or even neurological effects from repeated meditation? Could the brain change through meditation?

Do you seek a reprieve from the chaos of life? Do you sometimes need a calming timeout? Do you think meditation can lead to a clearer mind? Is that something worth pursuing?
