Drifting?

Thoughts and questions about drifting!

Drifting? Are we all sometimes drifters? Can we drift for a few minutes or a few hours, or even days and weeks? Can we become constant drifters?

What is drifting? Does it involve living without direction? Are drifters literally blowing in the wind? Are they susceptible to any and all outside influences? Is there a committed plan? Is there any plan?

What is the difference between temporarily unfurling our sails and stowing them away? Does the length of our drift make the difference or is it our intention? Is it a break or a disconnection?

Is it an effort, in a way, to step back, let the world spin without us, take a deep breath and just observe? Are there times when this is actually an effective way to refocus on our priorities?

Drifting across the vast space, silent except for wind and footsteps, I felt uncluttered and unhurried for the first time in a while, already on desert time.”— Rebecca Solnit

Conversely, if we start drifting, is it easy to immerse ourselves in that mindset? Does drifting become a comfort zone? Is it hard to break free from this drifting comfort zone?

Are you a drifter? How often do you drift? At times, is it a pleasant diversion? Are you more focused after a drifting session? Does it eventually cause you to become blase and very accepting of the status quo? Are you OK with that?

How do you personally define drifting?
