What does it really mean to give thanks? Are thanksgiving and gratitude synonymous? Are there nuances in the words that separate them in meaning? Can one give thanks without being grateful? Can one be grateful without giving thanks? Are grateful and thankful synonymous?
Whatever the words, what triggers thoughts of thanksgiving? Is thanksgiving the way one expresses gratitude? Are there things for which someone is grateful but does not express thanksgiving? Why?
To whom do we give our thanks? God? Is it those who are directly responsible for something we appreciate, someone who provides us with a gift or service, someone we value or the universe?
