Self Censorship?

Have you noticed that there are many who want to censor what is available for people to read? Depending on personal views would this be considered necessary or despicable?

Self-censorship normally refers to limiting what we say. Would it be valuable to also examine how we censor or filter ourselves in selecting what we read? what can we do to filter what gets into our mind? As what we read is so influential to what we think, how our opinions are formed and the development of our perspectives, what can we do to filter what gets into our mind?

From this perspective, how do we select reading materials that are worthy of our attention? How do we screen for the toxic and non-productive?

“Your mind is a powerful thing. When you filter it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change.”–Gautama Buddha

Does the same importance apply to our associations? Do some people add to our growth and development? Are there others who are toxic and detrimental to development and growth? Are there some who fall into either category without us realizing it?

What approach do you take to filter what gets into your mind? Do you reflect on what you read and with whom you associate? Are those reflections important to your selections? How do you deal with the toxic and the negative thoughts that seep through your filter? Do you reject them, accept them, but focus on the positive or do you become obsessed with the negative?

How would you teach young people to filter what enters their mind?
