What exactly is self-esteem? Are ego and self-esteem the same quality? Is there a correlation between them? Is there a causal effect of one on the other?

What contributes to this hesitancy to accept the consequences Vof our decisions and our actions? Is it due to a fear of failure or a fear of consequences or a fear of criticism? Is it a demonstration of lack of commitment?
